Recently there have been a lot of rumors about the South Coast. We are here today to BUST them once and for all!
Without further ado, let’s get on it!
- Water issues.
South Coast has water issues, but they are being managed very well. If you book your accommodation with a trusted hotel or a guest house, they will make sure that you have water as they either have a borehole or a water tank system. Just remember to ask if they have such solutions and only book with verified accommodation! Recently there have been many changes on the South Coast powered by a local initiative called Tidy Towns and water tanks have also been installed and built by the various local beaches to make sure the water is available in ablution blocks too.
- High crime area
Statistics do not lie. South Coast is NOT a high crime area. If anything, the crime on the South Coast is mainly petty crime. The local security companies and CPF offices work together tirelesly to ensure the safety of local residents as well as for visitors.
- The area is run down and dated
While there are some areas that need improvement, in the last year the South Coast has gone a long way. Businesses, residents and local initatives work every day to improve the area. There are many new, local businesses popping up offering great quality products and food. The streets and beaches get regular clean-up and they have been many renovations going on, especially in the beach areas.
- There is nothing to do
To find out all amazing things to do, you have to head to our listings. There are many new indoor activities like the new – first in Africa – Sky Park at Wild Coast Sun. However nothing beats the outdoor activities down here. Have you been to Oribi Gorge? Have you climed the gorge at Umtamvuna reserve? Have you tried kayaking, stand up puddle boarding, boat excursions? No? Well, you have just got yourself a list of thing to do, when you come down to the South Coast! You can also enjoy many local events like The Sweetdale Night Market tucked away in a beautiful setting at the back of Uvongo by The Packshed Restaurant. Margate Mardi Gras has also been reactivated (check this article to see how the first edition went), so make sure to check this out. We also have a new festival called Kwazulu Spirit Fest, that will be happening in July. As you can see – there is planty to do for everyone!
- There are so many pot holes
The road between Southbroom and Port Edward has recently gone through renovation, so no more potholes there. You can enjoy a smooth drive on the motorway past Port Shepston, all the way to Port Edward.
There you have it! Convienced yet to visit the South Coast? Everybody is await you.
